History of Fishing

Back to Home

Fishing has been around for many many generations. Fishing dates back to the Upper Paleolithic period, or in years, 40,000 years ago. At the time, fishing was primarily used with traditional spears. This is known as spear fishing. Over time, more and more tools were being made to fish. Native Americans would use nets or the traditional spear method. In 2000 B.C., the fishing rod was invented, with origins being somewhere in ancient Egypt, China, Greece, Trinidad and Tobago (Trinidad and Tobago is a country in the Caribbean, located off the coast of Venezuela), Rome, and medieval England. As the years passed, fishing became more advanced.

Fishing Today

As of today, many common methods humans used almost 40,000 years ago are still used today in a modern form. Fishing rods over the past 4,000 years since they were invented in 2000 B.C. have been turned from wood into fiberglass, graphite, carbon fibre, etc. Another good example would be spear fishing. There are people who still use traditional spears, but others use newer technology of this form.
